This week I’ll be diving into some frequently asked questions about the Longform Lab Incubator Program!
Who is this course for?
This program is for longform writers who want a skills refresher, accountability, and mentorship. Writers in this course work in different forms of media, from novels to magazine articles to narrative podcasts.
The Longform Lab Incubator is also for you if…
- You have a lot of ideas, excitement, and passion for your story, but actually making it happen is harder than you thought.
- Your new idea feels shiny and exciting, but once you get into the nitty gritty, it’s a slog.
- You’re not sure how to finish your story, but you know it’s worth telling.
- You could use a little bit of hand-holding on the way to becoming a professional writer
- You’re willing to put the time and effort into your writing if someone would just tell you what to do next!
I have a sparse idea, and haven’t started anything concrete yet. Is that okay?
Yes, absolutely! Previous participants have started from basically zero and used the exercises and lessons in this course to build up and write a successful longform story by the end.
I have a full draft, but something just isn’t working right. Is that okay?
Also totally fine, as long as you’re open to rethinking some aspects of your project. You’ll actually be at an advantage for some of the exercises if you already have an idea of your characters, story structure, and more.
I have a story idea, but am not sure if it should be a book or a documentary or what. Do I need to know that before I apply?
No! And that’s one of the big strengths of this program. I firmly believe strong storytelling principles are consistent across mediums, and that writers in different mediums can learn a lot from each other.
What if I change my mind about what story I want to work on after I apply?
Great! Changing your mind is a key part of the creative process, and very encouraged during the incubator. No worries.
I’m in a different timezone/have an unpredictable schedule. Is this course right for me?
Yes, it is! The Longform Lab Incubator Program is 100% asynchronous. You’ll complete each stage’s lessons, videos, and exercises at your own pace. But you’ll never be alone! You have email support directly with me for the whole course– and as long as you need afterwards, too! Plus we can hop on up to two video calls during your program to hammer out anything more difficult.
